HOW DID IT ALL BEGIN?
MOSCOT's roots were laid in America in 1899 by the great-great-grandfather Hyman Moscot, who came from Eastern Europe. Hyman started out selling ready-made eyeglasses in a wheelbarrow on Orchard Street on Manhattan's famous Lower East Side.
Having gained a loyal customer base by 1915, Hyman opened the family's first store at 94 Rivington Street.
In 1925, Hyman's 15-year-old son Sol joined the family business.
In 1936 MOSCOT was at 118 Orchard Street and would remain there for the next 80 years.
5 GENERATIONS AND 106 YEARS OF GLASSES EXCELLENCE
The eyeglass prescription has a complexity. Different needs require different lenses. And it is very important to us that these lenses are made to clear specifications. And we understand very well how it should be read exactly and how it should be done exactly as it is written.
We are proud of our company history.
I think it's great that we've been on Orchard street for nearly 100 years. We have been in this neighborhood for years and we say "We were born in Orchard and we will die in Orchard". It's especially nice for me to be in the store because not only have we been here for 5 generations - I'm the fifth - but it's also nice to see the generations of families who come to our store often. Ki I've been in sales for a while too.I ran into a grandson of someone who came to my grandfather's for his glasses, which demonstrates the fact that Moscot is a permanent brand, part of NewYork.
The combination of fashion and health has always intrigued me. I went to optometry school, graduated at 27, got my doctorate degree, I've been doing eye exams in this store for more than 25 years.
When designing new frames, I take into account the classical elements and design language of our original models, and I always try to transfer that language and brand heritage to the frames, sticking to timeless designs and classic elements.
We make our glasses in our laboratories located in each of our stores, so we can control every point of production.
MOSCOT is printed in every frame we make, and we're proud of it. Our ancestors also paid a lot of attention to the glasses made, so everything we offer must be of premium quality.
One size does not fit all. We usually have Small medium large sizes. Our licensed opticians take the measurements of the face, measure the distance between the eyes, look at the general facial and bone lines and choose the appropriate size. Serving behind the counter, delivering products and demonstrating our unique optical experience is what sets our brand apart.
Those who use Moscot know that when they wear Moscot, they are wearing more than just glasses. They're wearing a piece of New York, a piece of the Moscot heritage, a piece of the family. People understand the attention to detail and timelessness. This is what makes Moscot frameworks special.
“Your vision is our business”. That was my grandfather's principle. Getting people to see, doing the right thing for the client, giving the right lens for vision problems was paramount. Or when someone wears Moscot with a new prescription eyeglasses, "Wow, I've never seen so clearly before" when you say… But when you think about it, glasses are the first thing you put on when you get up in the morning and the last thing you take off when you go to bed at night. I mean, it's a very critical element of your day and I can't think of anything more important than glasses that you are comfortable with and see well.
